Hot Atheist Buns
Bryan really likes raisins. Due to an early childhood encounter with an off raisin, I don't share the same enthusiasm for the dried grapes, as sweet, wholesome and versatile as they are.
Before untying the lines, Bryan looked forward to Easter because of this much loved treat. But none are to be found in the many bakeries throughout Central America. So, why not, I'll make a batch or two. Son of a gun, they aren't bad, maybe it's the the rum, apricots and chocolate chips. I can foresee more of these in our future.
Recipe is from King Arthur http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/easy-hot-cross-buns-recipe). The mods are:
1. double the raisins
2. double the other dried fruit, used apricots
3. added a couple handfuls of chocolate chips
4. reduce the milk from 1.25c to about 3/4C (very humid here in Panamá).
5. made the balls smaller, ended with about 30 small buns. Great for 11ies.
The dough is sticky, using plastic gloves (those sloppy ones cafeteria works have to use) coated with oil made forming the balls easy.
Why do I call them hot atheist buns? I never get around to putting the cross on them.
