Deck Meets Mast 2016

17 years ago Bryan and I built and installed a freestanding carbon fiber in our much loved Spencer 42, Copernicus. On the Pacific Coast, while beating into some high winds, you could feel the energy, though no movement in the deck near the mast. With the anticipated upwind ahead of us, Bryan insists on reinforcing the deck. I agree.

So here goes.

This project was like a domino, a number of other sub-projects came into play:
1. repainting the deck with non-skip
2. replacing cockpit locker hinges
3. fixing the gutters in the cockpit locker
4. covering the holes from the useless vents on the lazarette
5. replacing the vang jam cleats with rope clutches.
6. replacing bolts to vang pad eye with longer ones as the deck is thicker
7. replacing the mast boot.
8. moving the wire through deck fittings
