April 2012 Mazatlán The old style casas are based on Spanish architecture, the house unlike ones in USA or Canada where the house in the centre of a fenced in yard. Old styled Mexican houses were built up to the street and the building surrounds an inside court yard. This structure has huge advantages. It can support an extended family but at the same time provide privacy. The design and construction also helps keep it cool.
